The Democrats should answer these questions (Official Washington Examiner editorial, Aug. 23):
Because Vice President Kamala Harris has been too cowardly and deceptive to take questions from the press corps, and because the media have, in turn, been flacking for her rather than doing their jobs, we thought it would be helpful to post our questions here that she needs to answer.
- In the past, she clearly endorsed “mandatory” gun buybacks, a socialized government single-payer healthcare system, packing the Supreme Court with ideological justices, a federal job guarantee that could cost taxpayers up to $2 trillion per year, and a ban on fracking. Now her campaign aides say those are not her positions. Has she changed her mind on each of those, and if so, will she please explain why and also explain why voters should believe she is committed to her new positions? ….
And yet more questions that beg for answers (Aug. 23): 1. Do you believe that Israel’s very existence is an example of “settler colonialism,” and do you support a “right of return” for Palestinians to land they supposedly owned pre-1948?….
All of these Harris-Walz issue positions are unpopular (Aug. 25): If Republicans can refocus the presidential campaign on actual policy preferences, they should have an easy time making the Democratic ticket of Vice President Kamala Harris and Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) into a deeply unpopular duo.
Harris several times has advocated severe spending cuts for police. The public strongly opposes the “defund the police” movement.
Harris repeatedly has called for street protests to continue even after seeing the protests devolve into violence. Walz outlandishly dragged his feet on the Minneapolis mayor’s request for National Guard troops to put down violent riots that killed three people and injured dozens while partly excusing widespread arson by saying, “The ashes are symbolic of decades and generations of pain, of anguish unheard.”…
