On court packing, Tim Kaine sounds like a numbskull (Oct. 12): The Supreme Court nomination process might work better if the senators voting in it actually had a clue how the Constitution works.
Latest case in point: Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia, who was Hillary Clinton’s vice presidential running mate just four years ago. Appearing on Fox News with host Bill Hemmer on Monday afternoon, Kaine gave a stunningly ignorant answer when asked whether nominee Joe Biden should take a position for or against his fellow Democrats’ schemes to expand the size of the Supreme Court.
“I don’t think that’s his business,” Kaine said. The Virginian said that a president has “nothing to do” with court packing because it is supposedly left up to Congress alone to decide how many justices sit on the court.
This isn’t just wrong. It’s bizarrely, disqualifyingly ignorant. After all these years, does Kaine not know how the U.S. legislative process works?…
On dark money, Sen. Whitehouse is a hypocrite (Oct. 13):
The Academy Award for hypocritical chutzpah during the Supreme Court nomination hearings goes to Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, a Rhode Island Democrat, for his full conspiracy-theory rant about the supposed evils of the “dark money” supporting Amy Coney Barrett’s confirmation.
So-called dark money is political spending by nonprofit organizations that don’t disclose their donors’ names. … Whitehouse is a particularly avid purveyor of the same dark arts as those he loudly denounced during Tuesday’s hearing….
Amy Klobuchar has no credibility against ‘voter intimidation’ (Oct. 13):
Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota seems to have serious double standards about when “voter intimidation” is a real problem.
In particular, Klobuchar seems more worried about hypothetical voter intimidation by conservative poll watchers this year than she was about actual intimidation 12 years ago by violent members of the New Black Panther Party…..
