While Sen. Richard Shelby garnered headlines with his federal flat-tax proposal, two state officials propose the same thing for the Alabama income tax. State Sen. Bill Hightower of Mobile and Rep. Lynn Greer of Rogersville will introduce the Flat Tax Simplification Act, reducing the state income tax rate to 2.75% while eliminating all state individual income-tax deductions. Their math works for both citizens of Alabama and the state treasury.
