Katie Russell is a champion. Tonight, she throws out the first pitch at Wrigley Field — a huge honor. It marks the end of an odyssey in which she has visited every single Major League ballpark in this one summer — in honor of her late mother, who died of cancer six years ago. (I wrote about her mother, my godmother, for The American Spectator when she died.) Katie herself is a cancer survivor — and she went through the treatments several years ago with amazing spunk and her trademark high spirits.

This isn’t just me indulging a fondness for my friend. Several other publications have written about Katie’s fun quest, here and here and here. And here’s Katie’s own, really cool web site about her adventure.

I am so proud of Katie. She’s awesome.

Update: ESPN interviewed Katie after she completed her tour, at Wrigley. Here’s an excerpt.
